ABOUT
OUR SCHOOL
St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton School (SEAS) is a Catholic
parochial elementary school that is located within
Jefferson Parish at 4119 St. Elizabeth Drive in
Kenner, Louisiana. SEAS was established in 1984 by
the church community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
parish and the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The motto
of the school, “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord” (Ps
123) is the essence of our philosophy. SEAS is
accredited by both the state of Louisiana and the
Archdiocese of New Orleans. Today our school
includes one Pre-Kindergarten class for three year
olds (Pre-K3) and two classes per grade for
Pre-Kindergarten for four year olds (Pre-K4) through
seventh grade.
The school plant includes the two original
buildings, two modular buildings added in 1987 and
replaced in 2005, a multi-purpose church facility
built in 1989, and a third modular building added in
2008. The south school building houses the Pre-K4
classrooms, the first through fifth grade
classrooms, and the physical education classroom.
The north building houses the sixth and seventh
grade classrooms, the music room, the library, and
the computer room. It also contains the school
administrative offices, the parish offices, the
school counselor’s office, the Individual Needs
room, the faculty lounge, and the lunch room, which
is used for Extended Care before and after school.
The new modular buildings house both of the
Kindergarten classes and the Pre-K3 class. The
students attend weekly mass and other religious
services in the multi-purpose church facility. This
facility is also used for school and parish
functions such as plays, concerts, and meetings. An
asphalt parking lot was constructed in 1990 and is
used as a play area for grades one through seven
along with the grass field behind it. There are two
additional early childhood playground areas for
Pre-K3 through Kindergarten. The grass field located
on the south side of the school building is used for
flag football games and physical education classes.
The administration, faculty, and staff consist of a
school administrator, a full-time guidance
counselor, twenty-two full-time teachers, a full
time individual needs teacher, and three part-time
teachers, all of whom are certified. There are nine
teacher assistants, one band teacher, two extended
care coordinators, and two secretaries. SEAS is
committed to providing an education that includes a
strong academic curriculum and provides spiritual
and emotional guidance and growth. The students
participate in all academic subjects. Math, language
arts, science, social studies, and religion classes
are taught daily. Ancillary classes such as physical
education, music, computer, and library/French are
taught once or twice a week depending upon the grade
level. Instrumental music classes are held every
Friday for those in grades four to seven who choose
to enroll. Students eat in the lunch room every day.
Students may bring their lunch or choose to purchase
lunch from the school lunch program, provided by
Dino’s Catering, which brings in a hot entree,
sandwiches, and salads each day. An Extended Care
program is provided before and after school Monday
through Friday. Homework Room is provided through
the Extended Care program Monday-Thursday, and is
staffed by a certified teacher.
To further our commitment to produce citizens that
are confident, self-directed, lifelong learners who
actively demonstrate gospel values, students at SEAS
may participate in a wide range of activities
outside of the traditional classroom setting.
Students regularly take educational field trips
which enhance the curriculum. They learn leadership
skills through active participation in clubs such as
Beta Club, Student Council, Scouting, and Safety
Patrol. They may also join the Chess Club, Choir,
Drama Club, Newspaper, and the Pro-Life Club. They
address social justice issues by participating in
altruistic activities such as food and clothing
drives, raising money for Catholic missions, being
active in Pro-Life causes, performing for the
elderly, and preparing meals for the hungry. They
become involved in the mission of the Catholic
Church during the annual celebration of Catholic
Schools Week and through participation in the mass
as altar servers, readers, ministers of hospitality,
and choir members. SEAS students learn about health
issues through the D.A.R.E. program, guidance
classes, and participation in Red Ribbon Week
activities. They may also participate in a variety
of sports including: volleyball, flag football,
cabbage ball, soccer, basketball, cross country,
hockey, pep squad, and cheerleading.
The present enrollment is 460 students. Ninety-five
percent of the students presently enrolled are
Catholic and seventy-one percent of the students
live within St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. The parents expect their
children’s education to include a strong academic
curriculum while also providing spiritual and
emotional guidance and growth. The students
participate in all academic subjects. Math, language
arts, science, social studies, and religion classes
are taught daily. Ancillary classes such as physical
education, music, computer, and French are taught
once or twice a week depending upon the grade level.
Instrumental music classes are held every Friday for
those who enroll in grades four to seven. Students
are served lunch in the lunchroom everyday. Students
can buy or bring their lunch, and milk is always
available. Before school and after school care is
available to those parents who need this service.
Homework room is provided Monday-Thursday.
The school is funded through tuition and fees paid
by each family for each child enrolled in the school
and through parish support. The school receives
additional financing from student-oriented and
parent-oriented fundraisers initiated by the Home
and School Association. Other school or parish
organizations, such as the Grandparents’ Club, Men’s
Club, Knights of Columbus, etc., contribute their
services and/or money to the school. Government
funding is minimal, but reimbursements are received
for required services, certain state approved areas
such as textbooks, and transportation. Private
funding is received through grants from the Brown
Foundation and Entergy.
